Thursday April 28 - Sunday May 1, 2022
Various places and times in Vinton
As one of the oldest festivals in Southwest Virginia, and the oldest in the Roanoke Valley, the Vinton Dogwood Festival maintains a strong presence in Virginia's Blue Ridge.
The Vinton Dogwood Festival's annual parade will step-off at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 30, from the Vinton War Memorial.
The parade will feature floats, marching bands, novelty units, antique and classic cars, twirling groups, dance groups, cheer groups, animal rescues groups, skaters, nonprofits, and more. Come watch the parade with your family and friends!
In 1956, the Vinton Band Boosters saw the need for new uniforms for the William Byrd High School band. To finance the project, the band boosters sold small dogwood trees. The idea caught on and fun-loving Vintonites parlayed the sale of the dogwoods into a community project that culminated in a festival. The following year, Vinton Town Council and the town citizens decided to make it an annual event, and the Vinton Dogwood Festival was born.
