Blue Ridge Beverage, its principals and employees have a long-standing commitment to charitable activities and philanthropy. The Company supports numerous charities through retailer-sponsored and other golf tournaments and special events, and makes donations in support of the arts, including Roanoke’s Center in the Square Cultural Center, Taubman Museum of Art, Jefferson Center, and Opera Roanoke. Blue Ridge Beverage also takes significant interest in promoting education, and contributes to fund academic and research programs, scholarships, athletics and capital programs at Virginia Tech, the Virginia Tech Foundation, University of Virginia, University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena, James Madison University, and Roanoke College.
Blue Ridge Beverage also supports multiple green initiatives. The Company recycles plastic, cardboard, paper and wooden pallets. The Company’s warehouses boast high efficiency, low-energy lighting. The Company re-routed, adjusted service policies, and consolidated and/or eliminated delivery routes at all divisions when oil prices first skyrocketed, and is replacing ½ and ¾-ton vans with more fuel efficient vehicles whenever possible. Out of code or obsolete inventory is transported to MXI Environmental Services LLC in Abingdon, Virginia; MXI converts non-hazardous byproducts, including beverage alcohol, into ethanol. MXI also recycles the aluminum, glass, and plastic beverage containers.
