Viña Casa Tamaya is located in the Limarí Valley, 400 kms. North of Santiago. The 210 hectare estate is currently planted with 163 hectares of the following varieties: Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc in whites; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carménère, Syrah and Sangiovese in reds. Planting of the vines started in 1997, and the construction of the winery (with a capacity of 1.470.000 litres) was initiated in 2001.
The name “Tamaya” comes from the Diaguita Indians, who inhabited the region of the Limarí Valley between the 8th-15th centuries. “Tamaya” means “high lookout point” and corresponds to the name of the principal hill in the area, which is situated within the property of Viña Casa Tamaya.
